Peaky 8-bit Quick Start Guide

Thank you for picking up a Peaky 8-bit (P8)!!
This guide will walk you through getting started with your P8 for the first time.

English Version
What You Need
- 1.5V alkaline battery (AAA)
- Note: 1.2V rechargeable batteries won’t work (the voltage is too low to power the device).
Nice to Have
- Phillips head screwdriver (you might not need it)
- The case screws might be a bit tight to turn by hand. If so, use a screwdriver to push the screws through the case with a little extra force.
Setup + Orientation
Currently, P8 uses a symmetrical PCB design (to reduce costs and because it’s still at the prototype stage). So when placing it on a desk, orient it so that the MCU (XIAO BLE) is on the left side, as shown below.
When holding it in your hands:
- Left hand: MCU on the pinky side (battery on the thumb side)
- Right hand: MCU on the thumb side
TIPThe case has a strap hole — old school style!
TIPSince both sides look identical, here are some ideas to tell them apart:
- Put a sticker on one side
- Use different colored key switches for left and right
- Attach a strap to one side
Bluetooth Connection & Power ON/OFF
When using P8 for the first time, the following steps should be all you need.
1. Power ON & First Bluetooth Pairing
- Turn ON the left device (primary).
- Turn ON the right device (secondary).
- Pair with your PC (or other host device) via Bluetooth.
TIPIf you have trouble remembering which way is ON/OFF, just write it on the PCB — I do!
2. Powering OFF
- Turn OFF the right device (secondary) first.
- Then turn OFF the left device (primary).
Checking Bluetooth Connection
Open Notepad (or any text editor) and try typing “Enter.”
Enter:

Next, check the right-hand device.

Clearing a Bluetooth Profile
Clear Profile:
【● ● ○ ○ / ● ○ ○ ●】Then, specify the profile you want to assign. Example — “Assign to BT1”:
【● ● ○ ○ / ○ ○ ○ ●】TIPP8 (or rather the XIAO BLE MCU) supports pairing with up to 5 devices.
Other Keymaps
If everything went smoothly up to this point, you’re probably itching to try some typing!
Here are a few excerpts from the full keymap.
Left hand:
- a–m: index finger only
- n–z: middle finger only
Right hand: the pattern “folds back” at “m” — you’ll notice it follows a mirrored pattern.
With the context menu key and cursor movement, you should be able to do quite a lot!

- もしかしたらケースのねじ止めが指だけではタイトかもしれません。その時はドライバーでちょっと強めにケースにネジを通してみてください。
設置方法＋握る方向
現在、P8はコスト削減＋プロトタイプ段階であることから、「左右同形」の基板になっています。
なので、デスクに置いての利用時は、図の用にMCU（XIAO BLE）が「左側」になるように設置します。
また、握って使う場合は、
- 左手：MCUが小指側（電池の方が親指側）
- 右手：MCUが親指側
になるようにして握ります。
TIPケースに古のストラップホールがあります！
TIP左右同形で見分けにくい場合のアイディア
- シールを貼る
- キースイッチを左右で色を変える
- ストラップを付ける
Bluetooth接続と電源ON/OFF
初めてP8を利用する際には、基本、以下の手順で大丈夫なはずです。
1.電源ONと初めてのBluetooth接続
- 左デバイス（親機）の電源をON
- 右デバイス（子機）の電源をON
- PCなどの接続先デバイスのBluetoothとペアリング。
TIPOn/Offが覚えにくい場合は基板に書いちゃって大丈夫です（私はそうしています）
2. 電源OFFする際
- 右デバイス（子機）の電源をOFF
- 左デバイス（親機）の電源をOFF
Bluetooth認識成功したかチェック
とりあえず「メモ帳」か何かを開いて、「Enter」を入力して見ましょう。
Enter：
【● ● ● ● / ○ ○ ○ ○】 （左手だけ全キーを押下）NOTEここで改行などEnterの入力がただしく認識されない場合は、左手のキーのどこかのはんだ付けに不備があることを意味します⇒開発者にご連絡ください。
続いて「右手」デバイスのチェック。
Space：
【○ ○ ○ ○ / ● ● ○ ○】Backspace：
【○ ○ ○ ○ / ● ○ ● ●】Bluetoothの接続がうまくいかない時。
Bluetoothのプロファイルをクリアする
プロファイルクリア：
【● ● ○ ○ / ● ○ ○ ● 】続いて、割り当てたいプロファイルを指定。
例「BT1に割り当てる」：
【● ● ○ ○ / ○ ○ ○ ● 】TIPP8（というかMCUであるXIAO BLE）は、5台までペアリングが可能です。
その他のキーマップ
ここまで問題なく進められたら、いくつかタイピングして見たくなると思います。
キーマップから、いくつか引用した図を置いておきます。
左手は
- a ~ m ：人差し指のみ
- n ~ z ：中指のみ
右手は、「m」で折り返していて、パターンになっているのが分かると思います。
「C-Menu」と「カーソル」移動で、かなり多くのことができると思います。
